Home Sponsor
On Saturday September 25th, volunteers from the University of Phoenix began raising the walls of their sponsored home with Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona (HFHCAZ). This home is being built in Avondale in partnership with the Solano family. Michelle Solano is a single mother of three who has only dreamed of becoming a homeowner. She is thrilled to be able to provide a more secure and stable environment for her children.
Since 2007, University of Phoenix has partnered with HFHCAZ through the Home Sponsorship program. To date, the University of Phoenix has completed three homes for families in need. As a "Home Sweet Home" full home sponsor, University of Phoenix has provided financial resources to pay for the construction materials as well as volunteers to help build the homes.
In 2009 alone, over 400 University of Phoenix volunteers came together to build a simple, decent and affordable home in partnership with the Gahungu Family. HFHCAZ values the partnership with the University of Phoenix and thanks them for generously providing volunteer labor and financial support, which helps strengthen families and build communities.
Homes Sponsored by University of Phoenix:
2010-2011 Solano family Avondale
2009-2010 Gahungu-Faida family, Phoenix
2008-2009 Balbastro family, Chandler
2007-2008 Jemenez family, GuadalupeIn addition to home sponsorship, University of Phoenix was the Signature Sponsors for HFHCAZ 2009 Blueprints and Bluejeans event.
In-Kind Partner

Fry's Food Stores has been a long time partner with Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona (HFHCAZ). Last year Fry's Food supported the mission of HFHCAZ throughout the year by providing support to the "Chip in for Humanity" Golf Classic, supplied hundreds of volunteers with food and beverages for the Net Zero five-day blitz build and when we were faced with the challenge of hydrating our volunteers and associates during the hot summer months, Fry's Food provided beverages to our ReStores and construction sites.
In addition, Fry's Foods donates items for each "Basket of Blessings" which is presented to every Haibitat family at the home dedication. The basket holds items which serve as symbols to wish the family well in their new home. The basket contains bread, so the family will never go hungry, flowers so the family will always know joy and happiness, and cider, so the family will always know prosperity. Last year, Forty-three baskets were presented to Habitat families.
Thank you Fry's Food Stores for your support and congratulations on your success as you celebrate 50 Years!
Habitat's New Kirby Development
posted October 2010
In September, Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona (HFHCAZ) started a new project in Peoria named Kirby. When completed, HFHCAZ will be able to serve six families with the support of its home sponsors. In addition to home sponsorships, HFHCAZ was able to acquire this land through a grant from the city of Peoria.
The house design for this project is a newer model for HFHCAZ. There will be three sets of duplexes; each two-story home will have a common wall – the garage. HFHCAZ is also utilizing this same model in the city of Glendale development called Palmaire Court.
Habitat is excited to be able to continue building in the City of Peoria and thanks them for their on-going support of its mission.
